–
Ex-world No. 1, Simona Halep has been suspended for 4 years for doping, announced the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). The 31-year-old Romanian, who has decided to appeal, may not return to competition before October 7, 2026.
Victorious of two Grand Slam titles (Roland-Garros 2018 and Wimbledon 2019), Simona Halep had been provisionally suspended since last October after testing positive for roxadustat in August 2022 during the US Open.
She was charged this spring with another separate Anti-Doping Program violation, relating to irregularities in her biological passport.
Halep immediately appeals
“I refuse to accept the four year suspension (…). I continue to train and do everything in my power to clear my name and get back on the court“, hammered Halep on social networks, saying her “intention to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport“, shortly after the announcement of his sanction by the International Tennis Integrity Agency.
